This Master program offers you strong theoretical and empirical foundations in economics. Several specializations allow you to choose your favorite field. Students obtain advanced training in quantitative methods for careers in consulting, finance or research, at government and international agencies, or at public and private companies in several functional areas. State-of-art economic theory and techniques are taught by internationally recognized academic and professional experts. Small classes allow intensive interaction with faculty and guidance on projects. Candidates should have a background in quantitative methods.
The coursework phase consists of Foundation courses, Major courses, and Elective courses. In addition, to develop professional and soft skills, you will select Leadership Lab activities and a summer internship. A final thesis project gives you the opportunity to work closely with top professors and apply what you have learned to an individual project.
These courses are designed to structure and consolidate your knowledge, skills and intuition of economics:
Deepen your learning in one area, and acquire knowledge and skills for specific jobs in private or public institutions.

Major courses and free electives for information only and subject to slight changes and/or to availability. For academic purposes, the only valid reference is your Study Plan provided by the Student Affairs office.
Each year CATÓLICA-LISBON will offer a range of electives, taught by our own faculty and by prestigious invited lecturers.
Elective courses can also be selected from other Majors, as well as from other MSc Programs at CATÓLICA-LISBON.
You may also opt to follow an international track and choose to do a third semester abroad at a partner University, picking up additional courses that suit the profile you wish to construct.
Spending the entire whole year abroad to pursue a Joint Degree or Double Degree program with a partner University is an appealing option for those interested in an international career.
Define your personal goals, industry preferences, and areas to work, and then select among 1) career and employment workshops, and 2) professional development workshops.
Career workshops include sessions on networking, CV and cover letter preparation, and interviewing. You have the opportunity to participate in realistic assessment center activities and to receive feedback from industry professionals.
The professional development workshops are designed to help you develop key competences, such as oral communication, emotional intelligence, managing energy and stress, self-knowledge and motivation, and negotiating effectively.
The thesis project requirement involves a research methodology workshop and a dissertation.
You should focus on your dissertation during your third semester (or fourth semester, if you do an exchange semester abroad).
The thesis can involve participation in academic research, or can be related to professional experience acquired during an internship. In any case you should plan to work on your dissertation at CATÓLICA-LISBON for the equivalent to full-time 3 to 4 months.
You will apply the knowledge, the analytic skills, and the professional competencies you have acquired in the program.
For many students, the thesis semester serves as an ideal bridge between academic studies and your professional career. As you complete your thesis, the Career Development Office is available to work with you on your job search and career planning.
