Received his MD in Medicine from Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (FMUP), where he taught Psychophysiology. He is the President of CA of Bial and also President of Bial Foundation. Doctor Honoris Causa from Facultad de Medicina de Cádiz, in Spain, and from Universidade do Porto.
