“We are good, but we are not extraordinary... Why?”: The four fundamental pillars for reforming the country, according to Nuno Moreira da Cruz.
Portugal has “enormous undeniable potential” to assert itself economically at an international level, and should look to the path it has taken in recent decades to guide the necessary reforms, following four essential pillars, according to the Dean of CATÓLICA-LISBON | Executives, one of the speakers at the 29th Executive Digest Conference, which took place on Tuesday at Culturgest in Lisbon.
Under the motto “Portugal: the future we can still choose,” the academic recalled that, more than 20 years ago, there was talk of the challenge that was the “Portugal brand.” “Today, 20 years later, we are still talking about this same challenge,” he criticized.
“We are good, but we are not extraordinary... Why?” asked the Dean of CATÓLICA-LISBON | Executives, pointing to the cycle of inertia “with much promise and frustration” as the “culprit.” “But despite this, Portugal today has more conditions than could have been dreamed of 20 years ago... In fact, something has been done, and we have more talent, more stability. Today, the Portugal brand adds, it doesn't subtract,” emphasized Nuno Moreira da Cruz, recalling examples given last week at the Marketeer magazine conference, also part of the Multipublicações Media Group.
“I believe that we are starting from a good place and we have challenges to turn it into something extraordinary,” the speaker continued. But how can we make this leap?
The diagnosis of the necessary reforms has been made. According to the speaker, in order to implement them, it is necessary to base them on four pillars: inspiring leadership, narratives that unite us, processes that sustain them, and a culture that makes it possible to carry out the reforms.
According to Nuno Moreira da Cruz, one of the aspects that could be the way for Portugal to ‘break’ the barriers to reform is something often repeated by international businesspeople who know the reality of our country: the “ability to balance tradition with innovation,” something that gives it “enormous undeniable potential.”
“Portugal has so many conditions to be as great as that potential,” summarized the Dean of CATÓLICA-LISBON | Executives, by way of conclusion.
