Dear members of the CATÓLICA-LISBON community,
Hope you are all well and safe. Since my November briefing to our community, the last few weeks have been rich with positive news from our School.
Regarding rankings, in December CATÓLICA-LISBON rose to 31st best business school in Europe in the prestigious Financial Times (FT) Rankings. And, last week, we learned that The Lisbon MBA increased to top 82 in the world in the FT Global MBA rankings and top 24 in Europe, being #1 in the world in International Course Experience due to our partnership with MIT. The Lisbon MBA also entered in The Economist Ranking of the top 90 MBAs in the world. Finally, a strong Class started in January despite the pandemic context. Congratulations to The Lisbon MBA team!
Closing the year on a very high note, we announced in December the largest ever private donation to a higher education institution in Portugal with a 12 million euros pledge from Grupo and Family José de Mello for the construction of our new campus. Our future building will double our current capacity and will be named Edifício José Manuel de Mello, recognizing a great business leader. You can read here my article in Negócios discussing the role of philanthropy in Capitalism (in Portuguese).
On January 18th I was deeply honoured to initiate a new Dean’s mandate for 2021-2023. Our new Dean’s Office team aims to implement an ambitious plan for growth and development of our School after achieving, in 2020, the best year ever in Degree Programs. 2021 will continue to be a very tough year for our international executive education operations due to the pandemic, but we have been expanding our portfolio of online executive programs.
After more than 40 digital conferences organized in 2020 with more than 80,000 viewers, last week we started the 2021 conference cycle, bringing the best knowledge insights to our community. We started with the NECEP quarterly conference on the forecasts for the Portuguese Economy, followed by a great conference on Managing teams attended by more than 300 people. You can watch the session recordings here. The upcoming knowledge conferences are:
