The Academy of Management announced that Professor Filipe Santos, Dean of Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, won this year’s decade award of the Academy of Management Review, the most reputed scientific journal in the world for conceptual papers in Management. The award recognizes his article published in 2010 “WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE: THE INTERNAL DYNAMICS OF ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSES TO CONFLICTING INSTITUTIONAL DEMANDS”
This award is given each year to the article published a decade ago in the Academy of Management Review that received the highest number of citations in the world. The paper of Professor Filipe Santos, written in co-authorship with Professor Anne-Claire Pache, has already received more than 1600 citations in Google Scholar.
In this article, the authors explain that organizations are facing an increasing complex Institutional environmental, with distinct stakeholders pushing managers in different and often conflicting strategic directions. The paper argues that the strategic response of organizations will depend on the internal dynamics of these pressures, potentially leading to situations of organizational conflict and breakdown. The article proposes a model that allows to predict the organizational response and organizational impact in different contexts. This paper became a leading reference in the literature on hybrid organizations and institutional theory.
The scientific research of Professor Filipe Santos in the areas of entrepreneurship, institutions and social innovation already received more than 9500 citations (Google Scholar) and he is the only Portuguese management scholar present in the 2019 list of the most Impactful Researchers in the world.
