Firstly, the group does research in endogenous fluctuations. Recent work has been on the effects of different market distortions on determinacy and cycles driven by self-fulling volatile expectations, with the introduction of labor market distortions, for example. The destabilizing effects of social norms and fiscal policy rules are also a topic of study for these researchers.
For over three decades, researchers at CATÓLICA-LISBON have been writing groundbreaking research on both Macro and Microeconomics.
Its members have been recognized internationally as leaders in their fields, exploring several topics which are central to policy making and societal issues. Since 2017, researchers in economics have authored over 35 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Throughout their careers, members of this research area have seen their work published in some of the top journals in the field, including American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies and Journal of Econometrics.
The Economics group members, work in close connection with researchers in other disciplines at CATÓLICA-LISBON to create multidisciplinary research and are also active in the community, participating in editorial boards of some of the most important journals (Economics Bulletin, The World Economy, and Journal of the Latin America and Caribbean Economic Association), and as members of international funding bodies’ councils. Moreover, they have a strong and observable policy and societal impacts. Several research members have high public profiles in Portuguese media and policy making, having even held high offices at the national regulator of telecommunications, ANACOM, at the scientific council of the Gulbenkian Foundation Program on Innovation in Healthcare, or on the Board of Trustees of the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education - A3ES.
Members of the Economics group are also associated with the CATÓLICA-LISBON’s Research Center of Economics For Prosperity - PROSPER that uses cutting-edge research methods to answer important questions on pressing economic issues that matter for prosperity, and to the Laboratory CATÓLICA-LISBON Forecasting Lab (NECEP) that focus on nowcasting and short to medium term forecasting of macroeconomic aggregates tracking the developments of the Portuguese economy.
