We open the door for those ideas that question the status quo and want to make a change in what is known on many different levels:

We aim to encourage all participants to dream of change and promote an endeavor of rule breaking to every individual mindset. We want to inspire our audience to do things differently! In a VIRTUAL EVENT, held on an innovative 3D platform called iChair, we will set new standards by reaching a bigger audience than ever to create an unforgettable experience.

What is TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. These events are branded TEDx, in which x stands for independently organized TED event. The events are held by volunteers of the local communities and aim at providing their audience with inspiring talks.

TEDxCatólicaLisbonSBE

TEDxCatólicaLisbonSBE is an event organized by a group of 19 management students, challenging the status quo. All of us  internalized the TEDx spirit and want to open up the stage for inspiring personalities with rule breaking ideas. The event will be held on iChair, an online platform designed especially for virtual events, with pre recorded talks and Q&A sessions.

Get to know our speakers

Arman Vestad

Arman Vestad, a Norwegian ex-prisoner, will be talking about how the specific skillset obtained in prison is an advantage for companies. After being imprisoned several times and breaking the rules of lawful behavior, Arman became a debt counselor for the national authority where he worked for almost 20 years. Nowadays, he is helping other ex-criminals to get integrated back into society and tries to create awareness for the benefits that ex-criminals can bring to the corporate world.

Ana Catarina Gomes

Ana Catarina Gomes, a Portuguese biochemist, and the CEO of CBR Genomics will be talking about the ugly, the bad, and the good side of errors and ambiguity in life. Within her 20 years in Science, she was the first CEO of the R&D department of the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra. Passionate for innovation and with a unique drive for impact and excellence, Ana is now working in a startup that delivers an innovative and convenient approach to streamline a secure genetically informed medicine.

Gustavo Guadagnini 

Gustavo, the Managing Director of The Good Food Institute in Brazil, will be talking about how new technologies can be the solution for a more sustainable future, and how alternatives to the use of ingredients with animal origin make the earth a better place.

Julius Van de Laar

Julius van de Laar is a German political strategist and communication expert and was part of Barack Obama's winning campaigns in 2008 and 2012. These two campaigns are just two examples of how breaking the rules of traditional political campaigning is one key success factor in winning elections in the US. Julius shares his personal experience from the campaigns in 2008 and 2012 and outlines also other examples to show how challenging the status quo within the political establishment can be very successful.

Eunice Russoca

Eunice Emilia Nicolau Russoca is a Mozambican activist who lost her parents when she was a child. Although permanently belonging to the top percentage of students in high school and college, she soon realized that she wants to strive for something greater than working for the Customs. Neglecting money and not listening to her family, she made her own way and tells you how you can find your own purpose in life.

Jean Rosier

Jean Philippe Rosier is a Brazilian expert on creativity and creative processes, a former TEDx speaker, an educator, a partner of Perestroika, and Sputnik, the largest school of creative activities in Latin America, now also present in Europe. His goal is to transform education into a more creative way of learning.

Sinead Kane

Sinead Kane, having only 5% vision, doesn’t let her disability hold her back and is living life to thefull. Within the space of three months Sinead Kane was awarded two PhD doctorates. She is also the holder of a Guinness World Record for being the first blind person to complete a Marathon on each of the seven Continents, a feat which she completed in less than 7 days in January 2017 and the first Irish female to do the world marathon challenge. Sinead has overcome a lot of adversity throughout her life and now wants to help others. She proves how those who persist in spite of a disability can develop determination, motivation, and creativity.

Clémentine Desseaux

Plus-size model Clémentine started her first weight loss program at the age of 10, initiated by the thought to fit in to be happy. Many years later she chose to be an accomplice to an industry, where everyone corresponds to the "perfect beauty ideals". But very early she discovered the body positivity movement and changed her life. In her speech, she will share with us her secret to self-acceptance, so that we don’t need to spend the next few years trying to fit in or thinking that our happiness depends on the way we look.

Frederico Fezas Vital

Frederico Fezas Vital is a Portuguese social entrepreneur who strongly believes that change is only possible by breaking the rules. Frederico worked in law and banking since he started to look for more purpose in life. Then he broke the norm of the typical career path, quitted his job, and founded the NGO "Terra dos Sonhos". Since then his life is dedicated to Social Entrepreneurship and he strongly believes changemakers need to be rule breakers.

Nic von Rupp

Nic von Rupp is a professional Big Wave Surfer from Portugal and believes that you don't have to be some kind of superhuman to surf the biggest waves of the planet. 20 years ago he wouldn't have thought that he would be facing Nazaré, the world record-breaking wave, on a constant base. As this spot is at his doorstep, it becomes routine to surf and face fear at the same time.
