Managing in an International Context - 3rd Trimester 2018/2019

3.5 ECTs / Trimester-Long Course / English

In this course, we focus on how firms manage the political, social, cultural and regulatory pressures that accompany international business. Our starting point is that, today, businesses can longer be viewed as mere economic agents, but rather social and political entities that shape our societies and institutions. As such, we will cover topics such as shareholder primacy and stakeholder theory, social responsibility and misconduct, corporate political activity and its manifestations, political connectedness and its implications, and doing business under conditions of heightened political risk and authoritarianism. Classes will combine various theoretical lenses with anecdotal evidence and case studies, and culminate in a full-day simulation -the Crisis Summit- that allows participants to experience first-hand the complexities of appeasing multiple stakeholders within an international context.
