CATÓLICA-LISBON

The international bachelor's degree courses available at CATÓLICA-LISBON are designed for students who are fluent in English, have recently completed their high school education and who have a good academic record and an international mindset.

International Bachelor’s Degree classes are made up of students from international education systems (e.g. International Baccalaureate, A-levels, Abitur and the French Baccalaureate) and from the Portuguese education system. Around 20% of the students are international, coming from countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Spain, India and South Africa. The majority of the students have had at least one international experience.

When applying for International Bachelor's Degree courses, students may receive a conditional offer if the Selection Panel considers that the application meets all the requirements for admission to International Bachelor's Degree courses.

The application formula for International Bachelor's Degrees is: 50% High School, 35% Mathematics Exam and 15% Profile (Personal Statement, Resumé and level of English). The selection panel will make its decision based on this formula.

Mathematics exam and high school grades may be in the form of expected grades if the student has not yet finished high school or done the Mathematics exam at the time of application. In relation to English, students may submit the required documents up to the end of the applications period.

If the Selection Panel gives a favourable reply (i.e. makes a conditional offer), applicants must pay the conditional offer in order to secure their place at CATÓLICA-LISBON. As soon as applicants receive their final grades, these should be submitted on the platform and the Marketing & Admissions Office informed by email (undergrad.clsbe@ucp.pt). If these correspond to the grades initially proposed, the conditional offer will become a definitive admission and the candidates will become CATÓLICA-LISBON students.

Applications for the bachelor's degree courses in Economics and in Business Administration & Management are accepted in July and August. Applications to CATÓLICA-LISBON are independent of the National Access to Higher Education System (applications to public universities) and are made online at www.ucp.pt.

Although the submission of proof of proficiency in English is not mandatory to apply for the National Bachelor's Degrees, students are encouraged to develop communication skills in English. A certain degree of comfort with the language is expected as students on the bachelor's degree course in Business Administration & Management and in Economics begin the program with subjects being taught in Portuguese and, as the course advances, they have subjects taught in English. Furthermore, all students of the National Undergraduate Program must meet the Católica-Lisbon English language proficiency requirement (B1 or higher according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in order to complete their degree.

International Bachelor’s Degrees are taught wholly in English and the content is designed for students who are looking for an international environment and a global career.

Therefore, in order to conclude the program, students have the opportunity to spend their entire final year in a partner institution abroad, taking part in the exclusive Double Degree programs with Grenoble École de Management or the University of San Diego, or doing an International Tri-School Exchange. These Bachelor’s Degree courses include a compulsory exchange period of at least six months.

National Bachelor's Degrees, on the other hand, ideally aimed at recent graduates from Portuguese high schools, are taught partly in Portuguese. Students who choose the National Bachelor’s Degree may also go on an exchange semester at one of our partner universities in their final year. This experience is highly valued by recruiting companies.

In order to apply for the International Bachelor’s Degree programs, candidates must submit the following:

1) Final High School Certificate, with the grade for the Mathematics exam*, for those who have completed high school, or a Diploma Statement (document provided on the applications platform and where student can insert their expected grades) and Certificate of Attendance (document with all the subjects studied and the respective grades from 10th year up to the time of application), for those who have not yet completed high school;

2) Resumé, in English

3) Personal statement (motivation letter), in English

4) English Certificate, with the recommended C1 level (minimum B2)

* if the grade for the Mathematics exam is not on the High School Certificate, students must submit the Mathematics Exam Certificate with the grade.

At CATÓLICA-LISBON, the first year is a common core year, which means that the subjects in Economics and in Business Administration & Management are the same. This structuring thus brings all first-year students into contact with the main topics in the two areas before making their choice between the two programs. They only have to choose between Economics and Management at the end of their first year and a place is always guaranteed. In the second year, students have different, more specialized curricular plans.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration & Management at CATÓLICA-LISBON was the first bachelor’s degree in management created in Portugal and is now designed in accordance with the most demanding international standards. It provides a solid background in the main areas of management, such as Strategy, Accounting, Marketing and Finance. The Bachelor’s Degree in Economics stands out for the education it provides in areas such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Public Economy.
