Luís Amaral distinguished with the Career Award 2016

In 2016, the Career Award was delivered to Luís Amaral, a former Business Administration student at CATÓLICA-LISBON, between 1979 and 1984.

The panel, chaired by Leonor Beleza and comprising António Murta, Isabel Jonet, Fernando Ulrich and Nuno Garoupa, distinguished Luís Amaral for his brilliant entrepreneurship along his outstanding career.

Luís Amaral started his career at Unilever, in Marketing and Sales functions, where he was till 1989. Later he was member of the Board of Directors at Grupo Entreposto, responsible for Nissan Marketing, Sales and Logistics (1989-1994). He was country manager of JM in Poland (1994-1999), where he developed since the very beginning Biedronka and Eurocash, nowadays the two bigger food distributors of that country. Luís was COO and Partner of Antfactory Latin America (2000-2003). In 2003, he organized the MBO of Eurocash and since then he is the CEO and major shareholder of this company, that has attained a significant increase in its turnover, being now the 7ª polish bigger company in sales, with almost 13000 employees. He co-founded also the Girl Move Foundation and the online newspaper "Observador".

The Career Award 2016 took place on June 21st, at CATÓLICA-LISBON Day and it was also marked by the participation of Prof. Henrique Leitão, who as guest speaker gave a speech on the theme "Can economists really learn from history?”.

Luís Amaral was then presented by his colleague Prof. João Borges de Assunção. The award was delivered by the Rector of UCP Prof. Maria da Glória Garcia.

This day dedicated to CATÓLICA-LISBON ended with a pleasant cocktail and a visit to the painting exhibition of Isabel Mourão, painter and our former student, where everyone had the opportunity to get together with old friends and colleagues.
