Internship Validation

Expand All Collapse all

Some master programs may include an internship requirement or an international requirement that can be fulfilled with an international internship.

See here the Internship Validation Manual

We currently share your concerns regarding the uncertainty in the job market and how this is going to affect your ability to fulfil the internship and the international requirements that are part of your master program.

These requirements exist because a varied path and a set of skills to complement academic preparation are important for your success. Professional, international and extracurricular activities are essential to differentiate you from a competition that is going to be fiercer than ever. So we strongly recommend you keep on working to find an experience in the coming months that contributes to your development. We will continue sharing tools and information to help you navigate this context.

Nevertheless, if you are not able to secure a corporate experience to fulfil the internship requirement, the school will exceptionally waive the requirement for those students who started the program in September 2019 and can not complete an internship before the thesis defence.

In the current conditions, if you have chosen to fulfil the international requirement with an internship instead of an exchange, you will exceptionally be allowed to fulfil this also through:

  • an internship in an international company in Portugal or in your home country. It will be considered an international company if it is present in more than one country or with clients outside own country (that is, with more than 30% of their sales to/in international markets/non-domestic market). This must be mentioned in the proof of internship when validating it.
  • Or, a volunteering experience in a third country lasting at least 6 weeks full time. This must be validated similarly to the internships.

Home company internships or international volunteering should be new experiences (have to take place within the period of the master program, not before).

Internships can be conducted in a remote setting, matching the work mode of that company and should involve company supervision, interacting with other members of the company (same requirements as before).
